I just did the Sporting Index Kennington Park promotion and wasted an hour of my life.

Kennington Park is a virtual horse racing game with 1980s 8-bit graphics. The offer goes:

Place 10 or more bets on Kennington Park before midnight on Sunday and we'll refund any net loss up to £30. Details

And the minimum risk per bet can be under £1.00. So if you're careful, you can easily make 10 low risk bets, and expect to win/lose under £10. After that, you can take a load of mug punts until you've won a lot, or lost the lot. Being the lucky guy that I am, I lost the lot. But should have my losses refunded on Monday. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

I'm probably going to try some financial spreadbetting next week. Capital Spreads have a refer a friend offer, where both the friend and referrer get £70 each. So I'm going to attempt some punts on the Bobl or Bund (German Government Bond Futures) based on pure technical analysis. If any of you want to give it a go too, please let me know so that I can refer you, and we'll both get £70.

Also, before placing your punts, make sure you're aware of the economic calendars. The US calendar that I use is here. There's another from FX Street here (times appear to be an hour behind, the US figures at 1230 should actually be at 1330). If you want to minimise your risk, you should avoid trading around the times of economic releases. For example, at 10am on Tuesday 17th July, Germany's monthly ZEW figures are released. If the figures aren't in line with expectations, then there could be a big spike. Unless you know which way the figure is going, it isn't a good idea to place a mug punt immediately before its release.
