Preparing for Vegas
This will probably be my last post before
Las Vegas. I'll be there next weekend as I have a week of road tripping around
San Francisco first. Should be good fun.
Went to visit my pro poker mate, Mr Welsh, this morning. He recommended I look at
this list to find some poker rooms to play at. The Bellagio is the big Mecca so I might try some cash limit games there. I'll also try out some $40 buy in
poker tournaments. We tried to install the betfair historical data application onto Welsh's machine but it was a real nightmare. For some reason, his version of
mySQL didn't like numbers enclosed in quotes ("'s). I therefore had to do a load of messy type casts, but it all worked in the end. While I'm losing money in Vegas, Mr Welsh will be working on some
stat arb models that will hopefully make us some coin from
football (initially) and
horse racing (later).
My speed dating mate got her rape alarm yesterday. I mentioned to
Rosie that I was concerned about a friend and had bought the alarm off ebay, but Rosie was not impressed!
While I'm away, new readers to my Texas Calculatem blog could check out my favourite blogs:

I should have kept my bloody mouth shut
A friend was telling me about speed dating the other day. She was off to a gold diggers' event where men need to be over 35 and earning £50k+. Unfortunately I do not qualify. Anyway, instead of going for commoners earning a mere £50k I suggested she try out
Trader Dater, which in my view is quite definitely the worst dating site imaginable. It basically allows super model chicks to gold dig for money printing traders. How tacky.
Unfortunately my mate got a date with a
Norwegian Natural Gas trader. I therefore used my poker slush fund to purchase her a
rape alarm as I'd feel very bad should anything happen to her.
It's time for bed now. I was up at 530am. It's now 11pm. But for some reason I'm sitting at Laddies with the
Juice. J recons that I need to worship more, but I'm still losing at the NL. And don't have the time or motivation to move back to limit. Oh well.
New Blogs
After hearing about the success of this blog and J's poker conquests, yet another of my mates has started up his own blog. The new blog is
Life as an MD, and will follow the life of a small entrepreneur as he cuts throats on his way up the ladder.
The
tortoise is on holiday, but I need to add his blog and the MD blog to my blog list later. Will try to do it tonight.,

Mediocrity

I've done no Poker this weekend. So I guess I'm going to blog about my exciting life.
On Friday I went to
the Swan in Stockwell. It's one of those holes in the ground that people like to go to. My fellow drinkers were Wheels, Lazaroo and Blapman. We played stupid drinking games and did lots of press ups on the floor. But the door staff started giving us unusual looks so we stopped. I also bumped into my dear friend Elly. She was just popping in on the way home from work. These
city lawyers are so hard core! Before going to The Swan I'd been home. Eaten dinner. Coded some geek stuff. Discussed geek stuff with my bro and his mate. They seem to be very much into building elegant and useful web solutions. Being a city trader I'm just interested in making a side income. However, this blog has been discussing random stuff (such as Nacho) lately, and as a consequence has bombed in the search engine rankings. If you have a website, please link to me:

Name: Texas Calculatem and Poker Office Blog
Description: An Online Poker Blog detailing a quest to successfully beat Online Poker using Texas Calculatem and Poker Office
On Saturday I woke up with a nasty hangover and had to drive to Birmingham for a friend's 27th birthday party. It was full of medics talking medic stuff. I'm not too sure if they were very impressed with my goodself. My mate's brother, from St Georges (another medic place), enjoys the sport of blapping. Blapping is the art of striking things with a male's equipment and is very popular with St George's
medics. However, the Birmingham medics seemed totally disgusted with the whole affair, after I enquired as to who was the head of the Birmingham blapping society.

Today I drove back from Birmingham and lazed around. Did some work on my betfair project. I've charted the time series of match odds against total goals. Not sure how far we can take this. Mr Welsh is doing the analysis, I'm just doing the tech side as my head hurts when thinking about
poisson distributions.
Hmmm... Looks like I've just written another post that has absolutely nothing to do with Texas Calculatem or Poker Office. SMT SMT.

More Spy Info
In response to
this:
Acorn, the
Juicester and myself are very please that
Nacho likes his gifts. Yet again we have shown that Poker is a force of good. Withouth Poker Nacho would not have had the opportunity to murder the duck, shark and bone.
Doing a whois lookup on J's admirer, we get
this:

Hmmm.. I've just encountered some sort of blogger corruption. Oh well. There was a bit more below this but it got deleted.
I'm off to Vegas next Saturday. Will only be in sin city for 3 days trying to work the skills. Have not been worshipping enough lately, so will try to get all my chips in before the flop, in order the minimise the edge that better players have against me.

Spying on J & Ladbrokes Poker
Someone has been searching for info on
J, at Ladbrokes Poker, using Google. Here is some info on the culprit:
Host Name c83-250-129-162.bredband.comhem.se
IP Address 83.250.129.162
Country Sweden
Region -
City -
ISP Com Hem Customer Broadband Access
Browser MSIE 6.0
Operating System Windows 2000
Resolution 1024x768
Javascript Enabled
Could anyone shed some light as to who this is?
Is
J such a potent Poker player that people hire PI's to
spy on his bathroom habits.
Nacho the Poker Doggy
Nacho, Acorn's Poker sidekick, has destroyed yet another gift. This time, the
Juicester and myself decided to get Nacho a rubber shark and bone. The bone is still intact, but the
shark did not last 5 minutes. I think Juice is a little upset that our gifts never have much lasting power.
On the poker front I'm still just wasting time. Juice keeps on convincing me to "come and worship", but all I do is lose a few chips every hour. Need to get good before I go to Vegas next week. Or might just try the all in strategy. Feel a bit bad that
even kids are beating my game. But unless I start focusing I'll get nowhere. And I doubt they'll allow me to setup Texas Calculatem
Looking to more positive things, I've been hired to help develop some betting strategies on the betfair exchange. So far I have created a spreadsheet that downloads live prices. This will let us plug real time prices into our algorithms. The next step is to get a load of historical data into a database, and to chart some models to see how they perform.
Random ebay items
Some associates are trying to flog off some junk on ebay. I personally can't be bothered with selling stuff on ebay. Why spend 10 minutes going to the post office to make £1, when you can lose £10 in 2 minutes playing Poker online?
Anyway, here are the auctions:
A 50 in one gaming device7 Used office chairs. Current bid is only £31!

Useful
Juicy Juice,I found this on my referals list. It has a table that shows how active the various poker rooms are. Maybe you could use it for your fishing?http://www.whichpoker.com/The Edge.

Sinking to New Depths
My discipline is worse than ever. Despite being a losing NL player I'm still sitting down for a few quick hands every other evening with the Juice. Poker is about winning. So I should not be playing for the social aspect.
The BR stands at $270 which to be honest is totally pitiful. When I get some time I'll put more hours into the Limit tables at Pacific. The problem is that I'm used to playing with
Juice and
Rosie and it feels a little lonesome when I'm not sat down with the familiar faces. I hear that
Kronsdat is doing well at Pacific, but there's no player search facility so I can't find him there.
Still reading the Hellmuth book (
Play Poker Like the Pros) that Juice got me for my birthday. It contains a lot more psychology than SSHE. However, Phil recommends players developing their player reading skills by playing the game, while SSHE explains how to grind out an edge through manipulating the probabilities.
Anyway, it's a new month, so let's make it profitable!
Hmmm... Just got a phone call from a dodgy cold calling spam company. I was not sure if it was truly spam or not (they claimed to be Orange) but I couldn't be bothered to respond and just hung up. Why be courteous to someone who's wasting my time? Any, googling the number 08004584727 provides
this interesting blog post.
Nacho's Gift
We used our Poker Profits to buy Nacho (Acorn's dog) a toy duck from ebay. It didn't last 5 minutes!
