POKER: $$5+0.50 SNG at Pacific Poker

I just did a $5+$0.50 SNG at that high quality fish fest, Pacific Poker (why does my font colour default to red?). As with everything else, Pacific Poker presents SNG players with a sub-standard experience. Players start with 800 in notional chips. This is half of the 1,500 commonly given at superior rooms. Lower starting chips increase the luck factor in SNGs. On top of the strange chip configuration, the Java applet failed to display player names or stack sizes. So I was forced to view stacks in the tournament lobby. It's good to see that the world's worst poker room hasn't got any better since I last played there.

Anyway, true to form, fish were present. A chap called Dempsey had an amazing run on a 100% all in strategy. However, he got taken out after the blinds rose to 15/30. Following that, there were about 4 players left. I'd done OK with some lucky hands (went all in with top pair against Dempsey) and waited for them to get taken out by the chip leader. I think proceeded to miss every hand and came 2nd place. I took home the 2nd prize of $15. Better than a kick in the teeth.
