Why NL is killing me... Thinking is bad.

I think I've worked out why NL is killing my BR. The main reason has been the 4BB raises with premium hands. Followed by Pot Sized Bets (PSBs) even when I miss.

Assume that I'm UTG with JJ. I raise 4BB. There are two callers (for simplicity's sake, let's assume that the callers are the small and big blinds).

I have just risked 4BB to win 1.5BB. This has failed. And it usually does.

And there is now 12BB in the pot. The two other players check to me. So I bet the pot. That's 12BB.

- Assuming that both players fold, I've made made 12BB from this last bet. Though 4BB was mine to begin with. So in all, I've risked 16BB to make a 8BB profit.

- Assuming only 1 player calls (this is usually the case), then I'm probably behind. And have lost 16BB for a potential profit of 8BB. i.e. reward is less than the risk. And this standard play works less than 50% of the time.

Rosie says that I think two much. And I'm sure there's a quote about excessive thinking causing problems. I believe that one of the characters in one of the Bernard Cornwell Starbuck books that I've been reading thinks that as well.

well, I think you think about maths a bit too much when you play nl poker. thats an entirely different propisition from thinking too much...

BTW, raising JJ from utg is usually a bad idea in itself, never mind the pot sized continuation bet with more than two callers behind you..although that itself depends on a whole host of other variables itself in play at the time. (i'll shut up,now)

I just don't understand why you're doing this to yourself when you have already shown you abilities in limit
