Had a flat P&L session at Ladbrokes Poker on the $0.25/$0.50 tables. I'm just going back to basics by re-reading Carson and browsing the twoplustwo Poker forum.
Carson is very good, but if you want some excellent tricks for the micro limit try David Sklansky's Small Stakes Holdem. Nice blog, btw.
Also, I tried calculatem. I find its a bit off for my taste. They are too loose preflop (even on tight setting) and post flop the are terrible on the flop (not agressive enough). I noticed you haven't relied on it much lately, is this why? What do you think?
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog.
In my opinion, Calculatem can give good advice on pre-flop. I have tightenned it up so that the minimum playable hands are "Hands to Open Betting with a Raise" according to Carson, Page 135, and often take it's advice.
Post flop, however, I agree that it can be terrible. If the opponent's are passive and don't raise much then it does well, but otherwise it recommends folding far too often, and does not seem to take the pot odds into account (I may be wrong on this last one). On other occasions, it can recommend "call one small bet" when you should definitely be folding.
But despite its faults, I feel that it has definitely learn more about Poker and look at things in a slightly different light.
If you're interested in following the strategy that I'm developing for the use of Calculatem then please read this post, which I'll be updating ona regular basis.
